Polythene LayFlat Tube

Polythene layflat tube – economical packaging

Polythene Layflat TubePolythene LayFlat tube is a long continuous tube of polythene which a packaging supplier sells on a roll. Indeed it has proven to be one of the easiest, quickest and most economical methods of packaging products. All you have to do is put your product in the tubing and then you cut to the preferred length, then you can seal using a heat sealer, adhesive tape or stapling at both ends.

The polythene layflat tube is mainly made from low density polythene. The polythene is produced from natural gas and crude oil which is a non-renewable natural resource. In producing the polythene layflat tube the most common of techniques used is the blown film extrusion method.  This process entails a number of things. The polythene melt is usually extruded through a slit annular die vertically. This results in the formation of a thin walled tube. Furthermore, there is the introduction of air through the centre of a hole of the die onto the tube. This causes the tube to get bigger thereby forming a bubble. On top of the die is also a high speed ring air which blows onto the film in order to cool it. This allows the tube to then continue upwards and to do a continuous cooling to a point where it goes through nip rolls leading to the flattening of the tube. The layflat tubing is taken back down the extrusion tower through a lot more rollers. The edges of the layflat tube are slit off to create two flat polythene sheets or kept as such. The polythene layflat tube could also be used where there is an issue with security.

Polythene layflat tube is used for odd shapes

The LayFlat tubing is also good for packaging very long and not easy to wrap items. All you have to do is to insert it into the tubing and then cut it to the preferred length. Heat seal, tie, and tape or staple both ends to form a made-to-measure bag. What we have to remember is that the layflat tubing is the most fundamental blown film product which is formed by a flattening and collapsing of the tube or bubble. Indeed all the other products of blown film are made out of the layflat tubing. Some tend to confuse it with the Gusseted layflat tubing which is created from a pair of metal triangles or wooden to change the shape of the tube or bubble as it goes through the collapsing frame.

Polythene layflat tube gauges

There are several advantages associated with the polythene layflat tube. One of these is the fact that there is no need for a large or big inventory of a variety of polythene bags with different sizes. Moreover, it is very good for packaging items or products which have peculiar shapes and varying sizes. They also come in a number of thicknesses and density like the 120, 300, and 500 gauges. They meet the EFSAN (European) and FDA (US) requirements with regards to food contact. The industries which make use of the layflat tube include the automotive, foam, construction, furniture and mattress, linen and textile, chemical, pharmaceutical, printing and publishing, lumber and food and meat packaging industries.

The different sizes like the 500 gauge polythene layflat tube for instance is one which eliminates tears and punctures from products with protruding and sharp corners or edges. It also provides super heavy weight form of protection for items.
